PPP letter to the Inspector -General of Sierra Leone Police (IGP) for 18 - 20th Planned protest

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FOR THE ATTENTION OF THE INSPECTOR-GENERAL OF SIERRA LEONE POLICE (IGP).

We give notice that contingent upon the report by the Committee set up following the

AGREEMENT ON NATIONAL UNITY signed last year between the "Government of Sierra Leone (GoSL)" and the All People's Congress (APC) with the international community also as a party, we will organize, coordinate, and lead a nationwide peaceful protest against electoral corruption and cover-up of the 2023 Presidential and Parliamentary elections by the authorities in Freetown.

The public will recall how, in full view and public glare, the elections of 24th June 2023 were corrupted, stolen, and or manipulated in favor of the Sierra Leone People's Party and their Presidential candidate Julius Maada Bio. In those elections, we witnessed the ECSL blatantly violating the electoral laws and our national constitution to ensure the manipulation of the results. We also followed reports by local and international elections observers condemning the manner in which those elections were conducted while categorically rejecting the results announced by the ECSL.

All reports indicated that the ECSL results do not represent the outcome of our last elections. The parties of the Agreement of National Unity being fully aware of the risks and the consequences of electoral theft, forced upon us and demanded that we patiently wait for the outcome of an investigation to be conducted. We now know that the said agreement was never intended to be a serious commitment of the parties and the outcome investigation could be a mere sham.

As the date for the release of the Committee's report draws close, Julius Maada Bio as the leader of SLPP and GoSL has been traveling around the country and making dangerous, regionalism and provocative threats of killing citizens who will try to express their feelings about a false report by the Committee. This in our opinion, is a preemptive attack on the conscience of citizens who may wish to express their revulsion on a consequential constitutional matter such as the legitimacy of the Head of State and Members of Parliament.

We the citizens of Sierra Leone will hold the authorities to account by matching peacefully and deliver a mandate in writing to the Speaker of Parliament.

We expect the Committee's report on the 19th of June 2024. When we read that report, we will operationalize our machinery if need be.

Gone are the days when selfish politicians would be allowed to destroy our destiny as a nation while working together as a team for their own interests.

Long live PPP.

Long Live Sierra Leone.

Dated 13th June 2024
