Police reassure residents that no authorized demonstrations are scheduled in Freetown.

"Freetown Police Assure Residents: No Approved Demonstrations Planned"

In a meeting held on Saturday, June 8th, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Sylvester Koroma, the Regional Commander for Freetown West, assured residents there are no authorized demonstrations currently scheduled in Freetown. This announcement aimed to both reassure the community of their safety and caution those considering disruptive activities.

AIG Koroma emphasized the police's commitment to maintaining public order and safety. "We will not tolerate any attempts to disrupt public order and safety,” he stated. “People from all walks of life deserve peace, and those who aim to disturb it for their own purposes will be stopped." This firm stance underscores the police's readiness to act decisively against any attempts to disturb the peace.

The meeting was a collaborative effort involving AIG Koroma, police commanders from Freetown West, and members of the Local Policing Partnership Board (LPPB). Together, they formulated a robust plan to ensure security and prevent unauthorized demonstrations. AIG Koroma highlighted that local unit commanders are on high alert and prepared to intervene against any illegal activities within their divisions.

“Our local unit commanders are in a high state of preparedness,” AIG Koroma said. “They will not allow any illegal demonstrations within their divisions.” This high state of readiness is part of a broader strategy to uphold peace and order throughout the region.

LPPB members also pledged their support for the police's efforts, committing to actively engage with their communities to raise awareness about the illegality of unauthorized demonstrations. This cooperative approach between law enforcement and community representatives is aimed at ensuring widespread understanding and compliance with the law.

The concerted effort by Freetown West authorities to maintain peace and order is a testament to their dedication to the well-being of all residents. By working together, the police and community leaders are striving to create a safe and secure environment for everyone in Freetown.
