Education Minister Sackey Enhances Collaboration with EduNations Sierra Leone

June 6th, 2024, Sierra Leone’s Minister for Basic and Senior Secondary
Education, Conrad Sackey, met with representatives from EduNations Sierra Leone
and the US to discuss strengthening their partnership in education.
Minister
Sackey stressed the importance of close collaboration between EduNations and
the government to achieve shared educational goals. The discussions focused on
improving teacher training, and support, and revising salary
structures. A central topic was raising the overall quality of education in
Sierra Leone, emphasizing expanding access in underserved
areas.
Minister
Sackey expressed gratitude for EduNations’ contributions to Sierra Leone’s
education system. He praised the strong performance of their schools in the
northern regions and suggested a knowledge-sharing initiative between
EduNations and government schools. He also encouraged the US team to attract
more Peace Corps volunteers to support educational efforts in Sierra Leone.
“I
acknowledged and recognized that EduNations’ schools are among the best
performers in the northern regions of Sierra Leone. I took the opportunity to
request knowledge-sharing between the EduNations’ school leaders and those in
government and government-assisted schools in their catchment areas. I further
used this engagement to encourage the US team members to serve as ambassadors
and recruit more Peace Corps volunteers to Sierra Leone,” Minister Sackey
stated.
EduNations
Inc., a US-based NGO, provides free, high-quality education to underprivileged
children in northern Sierra Leone. They currently operate 15 schools across six
communities, serving over 3,700 students. To ensure a conducive learning
environment, EduNations employs 112 teachers and provides free learning
materials and uniforms for all students. Their dedication to quality education
is vital in shaping the future of Sierra Leone’s young generation.
The
meeting highlighted the mutual commitment of both the government and EduNations
to improving educational outcomes in Sierra Leone. By leveraging EduNations’
successful strategies and resources, the partnership aims to enhance the
quality and accessibility of education throughout the country.
This
collaboration represents a significant step towards achieving educational
equity in Sierra Leone. The government’s engagement with EduNations
demonstrates a proactive approach to addressing educational challenges and
fostering a supportive environment for students and educators alike.
