Civil Society Activist Moses Mambu has accused European Union Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Manuel Muller, of listening to inciting audios by social media influencer Adebayor.
In an interview on African Young Voices (AYV) television, Mambu expressed his organization’s views on the alleged planned protest and the Tripartite Committee, raising concerns about the influence of diaspora social media instigators.
During
the interview, Mambu argued that the government should collaborate with the
embassies of countries where these instigators reside to hold them accountable.
He specifically mentioned Adebayor, stating, “Everybody knows Adebayor stays in
Holland, including the European Union, because the Dutch Government is part of
the European Union, which has a representative in Sierra Leone, Ambassador
Manuel Muller. Muller knows and listens to Adebayor and is aware of the
inciting statements coming from him. The government needs to work with the
European Union to go after people like that.”
Mambu emphasized that both the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) and the government have made efforts to maintain peace in Sierra Leone. However, he pointed out that Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora use social media to incite violence, which hampers the country's development.
He highlighted the numerous
challenges facing Sierra Leone, including crises in health, education, and the
economy, stressing that the nation is in a state of emergency across all these
sectors.
Mambu
underscored the need for a peaceful atmosphere to attract international
investors and foster development. He stated that the current socio-economic
issues in Sierra Leone require a stable environment where the government can
effectively address these challenges and promote growth.
Mambu called for a concerted effort to curb the influence of social
media instigators from the diaspora, urging the government and international
bodies like the European Union to collaborate in holding these individuals
accountable. By doing so, he believes Sierra Leone can create a more peaceful
and conducive environment for development and progress.
