ACC Imposes 5-Year Ban on Suspended Clerk of Parliament Parana Tarawally Wife

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has imposed a five-year ban on Mrs. Abibatu Parana Tarawally, the wife of the suspended Clerk of Parliament, Paran Umaru Tarawally, of Sierra Leone.

The ACC announced the conclusion of their investigation into Clerk of Parliament Umar Paran Tarawally and his wife. Mrs. Abibatu Parana Tarawally has admitted responsibility and returned the full amount she received as a salary, plus an additional 10% interest. Consequently, she is barred from holding any public office for five years.

Mrs. Tarawally agreed to settle the matter under Section 89 (1)(b)(i)(ii) of the Anti-Corruption Act 2008, as amended in 2019. She refunded the total amount received and paid an additional 10% interest, amounting to Le 15,642.

The ACC confirmed that the full sum of Le 156,422 has been recovered and deposited into the ACC Recovery Account. Regarding the Clerk, the ACC recommended strong administrative action by the President due to his failure in supervisory responsibility, despite his denial of any knowledge.

The ACC’s investigation revealed that Mrs. Abibatu Parana Tarawally was employed as a Human Resource (HR) Officer and received salaries and allowances from September 2021 to March 2023, totaling 19 months. 

Her net monthly salary was Le 7,676. She admitted to working only a few days after her employment in November 2021 before falling ill and traveling abroad for medical treatment. During this period, she received Le 156,422 in salaries and allowances.
