The meeting took place in the conference room of the Office of the Chief Minister, State House, Freetown, on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.

As part of an agreement to promote national unity, the All People's Congress (APC), the Government of Sierra Leone (GoSL), and development partners established the Tripartite Committee. This agreement's resolution (3) describes the committee's responsibilities and schedule. The committee is scheduled to meet every six months, from January to June 2024.

The invitation, extended to Dr. Samura Kamara, Leader of the APC, emphasizes the importance of discussing pertinent issues related to Resolution (3) of the Agreement for National Unity. The meeting aims to review the progress made by the committee, address any outstanding concerns, and consider the suggestion for an "Expanded Committee" meeting.

The invitation letter states, "Because of the progress made to date and to address any outstanding or emerging concerns, including the suggestion for an 'Expanded Committee' meeting to be convened, this meeting will be attended by two lead negotiators, the three co-chairs, as well as other committee members."

Resolution (3) of the Agreement for National Unity lays the foundation for the Tripartite Committee's work. It stipulates the committee's structure, mandate, and operational timeline. Over the past few months, the committee has been diligently working to fulfill its objectives, which include:

Promoting Dialogue: The committee serves as a platform for dialogue between the Government of Sierra Leone, the APC, and development partners. It provides an opportunity for all parties to express their views, concerns, and suggestions for the betterment of the nation.

Addressing National Issues: One of the primary functions of the Tripartite Committee is to address national issues that affect the welfare and development of Sierra Leone. Resolution (3) outlines specific areas of focus, including but not limited to governance, economic development, social welfare, and national security.

Ensuring Transparency and Accountability: Transparency and accountability are integral to the committee's operations. All decisions and actions taken by the committee are transparent and accountable to the people of Sierra Leone.

Building Consensus: By bringing together key stakeholders, the committee aims to build consensus on critical national issues. Through constructive dialogue and collaboration, the committee seeks to find common ground and develop solutions that benefit all Sierra Leoneans.

As the Tripartite Committee nears the end of its operational timeline, it is essential to review the progress made and address any outstanding concerns. The meeting scheduled for May 2, 2024, will provide an opportunity to assess the committee's achievements, challenges, and the way forward.

All members of the committee, including Dr. Samura Kamara, are urged to confirm their attendance with the Program Assistant to the Chief Minister. This meeting represents a significant step towards promoting national unity and addressing the challenges facing Sierra Leone.
