In relation to the abortive coup attempt on November 26, the government of Sierra Leone has filed charges against 12 individuals who were taken into custody.

The government of Sierra Leone has taken decisive action against individuals implicated in the November 26th failed coup attempt, charging a total of 12 people in connection with the incident. Among those charged are 11 individuals, including the former Minister of Youth Affairs and the Organizing Secretary of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC), with serious offenses such as treason, misprision of treason, and aiding and abetting the enemy.

The charged individuals encompass a diverse group, with notable figures such as Amadu 'Koita' Makalo, a retired military officer believed to be the alleged ringleader of the failed coup, and Bai Mahmoud Bangura, the National Organizing Secretary of the APC, among the accused.

The Ministry of Information and Civic Education released a statement outlining the charges, which range from treason to misprision of treason, as well as harboring, aiding, and abetting the enemy. 

These charges reflect the gravity of the accusations against the individuals involved in the coup attempt, signaling the government's commitment to addressing the incident with the full force of the law.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the charges underscore the severity of the alleged offenses and the government's determination to uphold the rule of law.
