Controversial BBC Exposé on Late Televangelist TB Joshua Sparks Heated Reactions

Social media is ablaze following a three-part exposé by the British Broadcasting Corporation’s Africa Eye on the late televangelist, Prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua, commonly known as TB Joshua. The investigative series, titled "Disciples: The Cult of TB Joshua," is creating waves as former disciples and church workers make serious allegations against the deceased prophet.

Released in three episodes on YouTube , the exposé features testimonies from witnesses mainly from the United States, the United Kingdom, Namibia, and South Africa. These individuals claim to have experienced manipulation and physical abuse, allegedly forcing them to stay with TB Joshua for extended periods, some up to 14 years.

The investigation also scrutinizes the tragic building collapse on September 12, 2014, at the Synagogue Church of All Nations' guest house, owned by TB Joshua. The collapse resulted in the deaths of at least 116 people, predominantly foreigners.

The exposé has sparked shock and outrage on social media, with many users calling for a thorough investigation into the allegations. Some expressed disbelief and called for accountability, while others questioned the timing of the documentary's release considering TB Joshua's passing.

On Twitter, the discussion gained significant traction, leading to trends in Nigeria and Ghana. Social media users voiced their opinions, with one user stating, "It’s a crazy world; there is much more than there is to the eye." Another user called for a ban on churches, criticizing individuals pretending to serve God.

A user raised concerns about the role of governments in Africa, commenting, "What is shocking is how many governments in Africa allow such fraudsters to operate."

However, opinions were divided, with some expressing a roller coaster of emotions after watching the documentary. One user questioned the timing of the exposé, wondering why it was released after TB Joshua's death, preventing him from defending himself. episode 2 BBC onTB

The BBC reached out to the current church leadership for a response, receiving a brief statement dismissing the allegations as unfounded. The church claimed that none of the allegations had ever been substantiated, though specific claims in the documentary were not directly addressed.

As the exposé continues to reverberate across social media, it remains to be seen how the revelations will impact the late televangelist's legacy and the wider discourse on religious practices. Stay tuned for updates as this controversial story unfolds.
