Sierra Leone's Freetown International Airport Implements New Charges Effective March 2024

Following an agreement between the Government of Sierra Leone and FIA Ltd. (previously Summa Airport SE Ltd.) on the Boild One-time Transfer Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) addressing the airport, new fees will be implemented at the Freetown International Airport starting on March 1st, 2024. The airport fee changes shown in the table below will go into effect on March 1, 2024, and beyond.

1. Fee for passenger services:

Prior to charging: $25

$35 is the revised fee.

Change: There will be a $10 fee for each person leaving from abroad.

2. Airport Development Fee: $5 was the previous fee.

Updated Fees:

$100 in 2024

$101 in 2025

$102 in 2026

Incremental Increase: $1 per year up until the end of the concession's 33-year duration.

3. Airport Security Charge:

Initial Charge: $0; Updated Charge: $65

Change: a new $65 fee will be charged to each person leaving from abroad.

4. Fee for Navigation:

Initial Charge: $0; Updated Charge: $25

Change: a new $25 fee will be applied to each person leaving from abroad.

The government and FIA Ltd. worked together to improve the financial structure and support current and upcoming development and safety measures at the Freetown International Airport, which is reflected in the modification of costs.
